Peripherals. Now as far as we’re concerned here in Australia, the only real DS peripheral is the recently released Guitar Hero on Tour strap.
However, elsewhere, especially in Japan there are far more interesting items available. Now I’m certain you’ve all read Mr M’s blog on the Taito Paddle Controller. Truly a beautiful device and one I recommend to all as well. The best part is it’s not exclusive to only one game. Though it comes in a bundle with Arkanoid (how I purchased it), it can also be used for Space Invaders Extreme. But enough of the Paddle Controller, as there’s already an article about it, let’s discuss some of the other strange peripherals available.
The first, and one of the oddest is the Slide Adventure Mag Kid slider. Probably the best way to describe it is a stand that turns your DS into a mouse. Sort of. It might be easier to explain it all together. In Slide Adventure Mag Kid, you use Mag Kid, a small round magnet who needs to do certain things around a house to some unknown end. Being all in Japanese what there is of a story is rather incomprehensible, however the game is simple enough to play. Using an optical laser, much like a computer mouse, you slide you DS around to move Mag Kid. The game mainly involves running into enemies, collecting their prone bodies and dragging them behind you to other locations, along with other items you find on your travels. It’s very simple to play and will provide you with a cool and rather unique peripheral. The best place to pick it up is www.playasia.com
One type of peripheral that there is an abundance of is DS stands. Some hold it sideways like a book, others much like a laptop stand. All are different for their own reasons. Nintendo make a magnetic stand for the DS. Hori, accessory masters who are officially licenced to make accessories for both Nintendo and Sony have several different stands available depending on exactly what you want your stand to be like. The final stand is a game specific stand. While it can be used for anything, it’s bright red, has logos and flags everywhere and you’d only buy it if you’re a fan of the Taiko drum beat games.
So there you go, a few of the weird and wonderful things we can attach to our DS’
Happy buying!
